Transparency: Whistleblower law imposes no penalties

The intention was to have those penalties established through amendments to the Criminal Code, but even with the adoption of the Law on Whistleblower Protection and since the beginning of its implementation, six months later, it has not been done, the NGO said.

“Although the lack of sanctions will not narrow the scope for protecting whistleblowers, it will, we believe, render it impossible to adequately punish those responsible for abusing the rights of people bold enough to point to corruption, waste of public resources, dangers to the environment and people’s health and other irregularities,” said Transparency Serbia, which is part of an international civil society network, Transparency International.
