Russian gas and oil giant Gazprom has filled the underground gas storage facility in Banatski Dvor in northern Serbia, to capacity.

Northern storage "boosts Serbia's, region's gas security"
Banatski Dvor will thus become a supplementary resource for providing gas supplies to Serbian consumers, Alexei Miller, chairman of Gazprom's Board of Directors, and Serbian state-owned gas enterprise Srbijagas Director General Dušan Bajatović said during a meeting held as part of the International Gas Forum in St. Petersburg.Miller and Bajatović also discussed the implementation of South Stream, a joint infrastructure project that should be granted a construction permit for the Serbian stretch of the gas pipeline, Srbijagas said in a statement.
They discussed Serbian-Russian cooperation in the gas sector, particularly focusing on Russian gas supplies to Serbia and utilization of underground gas storage facilities in Serbia.
The Banatski Dvor facility has been operating since 2011, actively storing 450 million cubic meters of gas.
The construction of the South Stream pipeline in Serbian territory is run by the joint project company South Stream Serbia AG, in which Gazprom and Srbijagas hold 51 and 49 percent stakes, respectively.
In 2013, Serbia and Russia signed a long-term agreement on annual gas supplies to Serbia of up to 1.5 billion cubic meters over the next ten years.
The gas is now transported by the existing supply route via Ukraine and Hungary, with the South Stream pipeline to take over in the future.
