Concern after new flooding in Serbia

Massive rainfall in eastern Serbia has caused major problems in the Kladovo, Majdanpek and Negotin municipalities, where a state of emergency has been declared, with hundreds of people evacuated and several reported missing.

The floodwater must be drained from the stricken areas, and the Serbian Armed Forces will join the rebuilding efforts on Friday.

Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanović, who visited the flooded areas near Kladovo on Wednesday, said that the damage assessment procedure will take several days, adding that the government will help the flood-hit population.
