Russia's biggest retail chain looks to boost Serbia imports

Sertić met with the Tander-Magnit management in Krasnodar to discuss possibilities for marketing Serbian products.

It was agreed that the Tander-Magnit management submit to the PKS a list of product categories that could hit the retailer's shelves.

Also discussed were possibilities of simplifying procedures, cutting transport costs and ensuring faster transport on the Danube River, the PKS said in a statement.

A coordination center established by the PKS to provide support to exporters to Russia has started operations, Sertić said.

We expect to see a new quality of cooperation and an increase in sales of Serbian products this year, said Tander-Magnit commercial director Marina Ivanovna.

Konstantin Ilyin, director of imports for fresh fruit and vegetables, said that, in the 2013/2014 season, the retail chain imported 200,000 tons of fruit and vegetables from Serbia worth EUR 87 million.

A need for imports of other types of goods from Serbia was also expressed at the meeting.

Tander-Magnit has a 200,000-strong workforce and 8,500 retail outlets, including 170 hypermarkets, the statement said.
