Air Serbia's inaugural flight takes off for Abu Dhabi

BELGRADE National airline Air Serbia officially launched over the weekend and its first flight took off for Abu Dhabi from Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport. The first airplane of the national airline Airbus A319 is named after tennis player Novak Djokovic as the first famous Serb among 'Serbia's living legends' whose names will be given to the new airline fleet. Air Serbia's inaugural flight takes off for Abu Dhabi “Novak Djokovic is well-known and loved in Serbia, and he fits our new vision perfectly, and it is our commitment to become the leading airline in the region,” Director General of Air Serbia Dane Kondic said at the plane promotion on Friday. He said that over the past few years, Djokovic has shown his competitiveness and the ability to overcome major challenges on which anyone could envy him as these are virtues well-known around the world. The first flight of Air Serbia opened the regular line to Abu Dhabi and it was boarded by the Serbian delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic. According to announcements, in addition to 29 existing flights, Air Serbia will set up new flights by the end of the year from Belgrade to Banja Luka, Bucharest, Ljubljana and Prague, after which it should open seven new lines by April and it should have 670 flights a week to 43 countries worldwide by June 2014. The Serbian government and Etihad Airways signed the agreement on strategic partnership in August, according to which the Arab company became the holder of 49 percent of Air Serbia capital.
