OSLO This year's Nobel Peace Prize has been given to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland made the announcement on Friday, Itar-Tass reported. OPCW given this year's Nobel Peace Prize The OPCW is currently overseeing destruction of Syria's chemical weapons. The Nobel Committee said it recognized the organization's "extensive work to eliminate chemical weapons". The Hague-based OPCW was established to enforce the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention.
