Exhibition of art inspired by Tesla opens in Belgrade

BELGRADE "The Light of Tesla's Work" exhibition opened on Wednesday night in the gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) in Belgrade. Tesla, the Serbian-American scientist and inventor, was an honorary member of SANU. Exhibition of art inspired by Tesla opens in Belgrade Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarch Irinej attended the opening. "In a time when we are proving ourselves and restoring our reputation which others have long been trying to tarnish, Tesla's name will show we are a historic, European and Balkan nation," said the Patriarch. He expressed hope that at the SPC's initiative, Tesla's urn which is kept at the Museum of Nikola Tesla in Belgrade will be buried at the Church of St. Sava and that a monument will be raised to the scientist in the same spot. The exhibition, which will be displayed at the Serbian Mission to the UN in September, presents 40 painting by prominent artists inspired by Tesla's life and work. It was opened by Vice President of SANU Ljubisa Rakic, who said that "we need to remember the scientist, whose inventions are an inexhaustible source of encouragement for future research and discoveries." The exhibition, curated by art collector and owner of several galleries Momcilo Mosa Todorovic, also presented a monument to Nikola Tesla, the work of SANU member Nikola Koka Jankovic. Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic will unveil the statue in front of Tesla's lab in Long Island, New York, on September 23. Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarch Irinej attended the opening.
