BELGRADE EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule has said that that Belgrade and Pristina are expected to implement the Brussels agreement. If the EU Council backs the EC recommendation of the European Commission (EC) on the start of the EU accession talks with Serbia, the EC will be urged at the summit in June to submit a proposal for the framework of talks with Serbia, he was quoted. "Deal implementation important for date decision" "We believe that the full understanding of the agreement, its advantages and guarantees, should be carefully considered. The agreement offers a very balanced solution which takes into consideration the interests and rights of the Serb community," Fule said in an interview for the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti. When asked why his report on Serbia, which is positive, does not mention June as the expected date for the beginning of the EU membership talks, Fule said that in Serbia's case usual steps have been taken as in terms of all other candidate countries in the past. The EC has recommended the opening of the accession talks, and now it is up to the Council to follow the recommendation in June and set a date for the beginning of the talks, Fule said. Fule said that therefore it can be expected that the first conference on the accession will be convened in the first half of 2013. “In the meantime, we expect from Serbia and Kosovo to implement the agreement by April 19 based on the implementation plan. I expect from Serbia, as a country which wants to open the accession talks and is on its way to do so, to remain fully mobilized in the European reform agenda,” Fule said. Tanjug Vecernje novosti
