BELGRADE Serbia's minority Catholic and Protestant Christians were on Monday marking Christmas Eve, ahead of the holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Belgrade, Stanislav Hocevar - who last week sent his Christmas message - served mass on Monday evening in Belgrade's Catholic cathedral. Serbia's Catholics and Protestants mark Christmas A Christmas concert was be held before the mass. Serbia's majority, Orthodox Christian population will celebrate Christmas two weeks later, as will embers of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. Some other Orthodox churches have accepted the Gregorian calendar and will be marking the holiday on tomorrow. All Christians believe that Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem on December 25. However, that date in the Julian calendar corresponds to January 7 in the Gregorian calendar. Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and Parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic on Monday wished a happy Christmas to the citizens who will celebrate it on Tuesday.
