The match ended 7-6, 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2, and brought Murray his first major title. Djokovic loses U.S. Open final to Murray Djokovic commented afterward to say that Murray deserved the win, and described him as the best player of the ATP season. The Serb said he was disappointed by the defeat, but that "deep down he knew he gave it his all": "I had a great opponent today. He deserved to win this Grand Slam more than anybody because over the years he has been a top player, he has been so close, lost four finals. Now he has won it so I would like to congratulate him. Definitely happy that he won it." The weather conditions in New York were poor, with strong wind, and the Scot managed to better adopt to them and win, joining Djokovic, Roger Federer of Switzerland and Spain's Rafael Nadal in the "Grand Slam club". The three top players won 29 of the past 30 Grand Slam titles. "Andy winning tonight makes it even more competitive and more interesting for people to watch. It's obvious that the four of us, we get to the later stages of every single Grand Slam. It's a privilege to be part of this era." (Beta) B92
