Kosovo Albanian officials have announced that vehicles with Serbian license plates will not be allowed to enter Kosovo starting from next week. Kosovo Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi said on Sunday that vehicles with Serbian license plates that have markings of Kosovo towns would not be allowed to enter Kosovo next week. Serbian plates “won’t be allowed in Kosovo” He told Tanjug that EULEX was planning on banning such vehicles from entering Kosovo at the Jarinje and Brnjak crossings. Rexhepi added that the deadline for re-registration of vehicles had expired and that it would not be extended. According to him, the deadline for issuing Kosovo drivers licenses is September 1. EULEX Spokeswoman Irina Gudeljevic told Tanjug that EULEX would gradually implement the agreement on freedom of movement, which includes the license plates agreement. She did not want to comment on the announcement that vehicles with the Serbian license plates would be banned from entering northern Kosovo from June 15. Gudeljevic said earlier that the agreement on the freedom of movement clearly stated that “all car owners who live in Kosovo will use RKS or KS license plates” and that both sides had agreed to it.
