The president of the Serb National Council (SNV) of Northern Kosovo and Metohija has announced that elections will be held in northern parts of the province. Milan Ivanovic spoke on Friday in Kosovska Mitrovica to say that elections will be organized in the same manner as a recent referendum, that saw the Serb-majority area reject the ethnic Albanian-dominated Kosovo institutions: Elections will be held in Kosovo, Serb leader is confident "Despite the clear threats that are coming from all sides, we are united here in Kosovo and Metohija, and will fight to achieve our interests. As we held the referendum, so we will organize local and parliamentary elections". Serbians will vote in parliamentary and local elections on May 6. According to Ivanovic, the SNV of Northern Kosovo and Metohija, and the SNV of Kosovo and Metohija, are both in favor of the holding of elections in the entire territory of Kosovo. Apart from the north where they are the majority, Serbs also live in isolated enclaves south of the Ibar River. Ivanovic also accused the government in Pristina of perpetrating ethnically motivated violence through a recent series of arrests, systematic pressure and intimidation targeting Serbs. "The final goal is to intimidate Serbs and shut down Serb institutions in Kosovo and Metohija, and all that is supposed to lead to assimilation of Serbs or their exile from this area," he stated. Ivanovic also noted that the situation was aggravated by the fact that the international community was "failing to react" to the violence. Milan Ivanovic (FoNet, file) Beta
