Serbian police have launched an operation against members of a crime ring suspected of smuggling several hundreds migrants from African and Asian countries. The operation to arrest the suspects was underway across Serbia this morning, Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljovic said. 17 suspects arrested for smuggling migrants Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said that 17 persons were arrested on suspicion of smuggling citizens of Afghanistan, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Tunisia and Sudan and acquiring large sums of money. The action is carried out by members of the Criminal Police Directorate and the Counter-Organized Crime Service, in coordination with the Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office, Hungarian and Austrian police, and MUP in Subotica, Sabac, Belgrade and Pancevo. The arrests were being carried out in the towns of Subotica, Belgrade, Pancevo, Loznica, Kanjiza and Mol.

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that 17 persons were arrested on suspicion of smuggling citizens of Afghanistan, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Tunisia and Sudan and acquiring large sums of money.

The action is carried out by members of the Criminal Police Directorate and the Counter-Organized Crime Service, in coordination with the Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office, Hungarian and Austrian police, and MUP in Subotica, Šabac, Belgrade and Pančevo.

The arrests were being carried out in the towns of Subotica, Belgrade, Pančevo, Loznica, Kanjiža and Mol.
