EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton says that Belgrade-Pristina dialogue is essential for peace and stability. She also stressed that it would be most important for improvement of the quality of life of citizens. Ashton: Belgrade-Pristina dialogue essential Ashton told Pristina-based Albanian language daily Koha Ditore that the dialogue, which should begin after the completion of election-related procedures, was undoubtedly very important, but added, however, that sound elections in Kosovo were important as well. She added that Kosovo citizens could expect the EU to further their European perspectives in 2011. “We are hoping that we can also start a dialogue about visas, participation in European programs and strengthening of trade relations. But this also very much depends on Kosovo,” the EU high representative stressed. She hopes that Kosovo will begin visa liberalization negotiations soon but she pointed out that Kosovo needed to fulfill all conditions regarding implementation of reforms first. “As we have seen in the case of Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina, the issue of visas has clearly showed that concrete implementation of reforms will bring results for the citizens as well,” Ashton explained.
