DSS hits back, dubs Šutanovac "NATO marine"

Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) officials reacted to an interview by Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac (DS). Sutanovac made "ruthless and false accusations" that Premier Vojislav Kostunica, who is the leader of the DSS, and Minister for Kosovo Slobodan Samardzic were behind the riots in Belgrade and Kosovska Mitrovica, advisor to the PM, Branislav Ristovojevic, said Monday. DSS hits back, dubs Sutanovac "NATO marine" "These false accusations are identical to those coming from NATO," Ristivojevic said in a statement sent to Tanjug news agency. Sutanovac aimed to send Serb troops to Afghanistan and Iraq so that they could die instead of U.S. soldiers, Ristivojevic continued. "Since he failed in this, he has now joined the NATO accusations against the prime miniser and Minister Samardzic," Ristivojevic added. "This is the first defense minister in Serbia's history who is falsely accusing, on behalf of a foreign military power – NATO – his own government. Such conduct leads to the conclusion that Sutanovac is more of a NATO marine than Serbia's defense minister," Ristivojevic concluded. Also today, outgoing Minister of Trade Predrag Bubalo accused the Democrats of dirty campaigning and of employing scare tactics ahead of the May 11 ballot. Bubalo (DSS) said that, conversely, his party is not leading a dirty campaign, rather that the DS is doing so by trying to scare citizens with talk of self-isolation and claiming that “the sky will fall if they do not win.” When the leader of the DSS coalition partners New Serbia, Velimir Ilic, said recently that DS leader Boris Tadic "will be to blame for every life lost on the Ibarska route", commenting on trouble facing the construction of the Horgos-Pozega highway, Bubalo says, “Ilic symbolically wanted to explain how individuals are behaving towards big projects such as highway concessions.” Bubalo also said that “there is no dirtier campaign” than overturning the concession agreement for the Horgos-Pozega highway, which the DSS blames on former coalition partners, with whom it still participates in the caretaker cabinet, the DS.
