The trial of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) member Sinan Morina opens today in Belgrade. Morina is being tried at Belgrade District Court’s War Crime section, where he is accused of war crimes against Serb civilians in the Kosovo municipality of Orahovac in 1998. Trial of former KLA member opens According to the indictment, Morina and 34 other KLA members, are charged with destroying property, religious buildings, and displacing, abusing and raping members of the local population between July 17and 21, 1998. The most serious charge pertains to the murder of eight civilians from the village of Opterusa. The indictment states that Morina participated in transporting civilians by truck to a village where they were later killed by KLA members. The remains of the civilians were found in April 2005, and later identified and handed over to the families of the victims. Morina (34) was arrested on December 30, 2006, in Montenegro, and has been in custody ever since.
