Thaci: Agreement is possible, no plans to revoke taxes

Thaci told Britain's Guardian newspaper that an agreement was still possible, despite serious setbacks in the past months.

"We have to sit down even with our arch enemies, but without any preconditions, and try to listen to each other," he said ahead of a meeting in Berlin at the end of this month with President Aleksandar Vucic.

Thaci is also quoted as saying that he "invested all the political capital he had built up over two decades in the success of the talks, and the price of continued failure would be damage to the whole region."

"In current circumstances, with these tensions, I do not see why any foreign investors would come and invest in our region. Only a peace agreement will bring prosperity," Thaci said.

He added that "border demarcation" would be part of any comprehensive "mutual recognition agreement," and stressed that "there can be no borders on ethnic lines" as "both Kosovo and Serbia" "will remain multi-ethnic "states."

Speaking about Serbs in Kosovo and heads of four Serb municipalities in the North who resigned after Pristina introduced its taxes in November, Thaci said that Serbs have "withdrawn from political life in Kosovo."

"Nobody has an answer how to move forward," he said, declaring "Kosovans" the biggest victims, and in particular, "Kosovan (Kosovo)Serbs."
