Macedonian parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi said that the Macedonian parliament and he were open for cooperation with Serbian institutions.

Inflammatory rhetoric "aggravates Belgrade-Skopje relations"

"The inflammatory language affects relations on an individual basis first, between representatives of institutions, which then affects relations between nations, citizens of the states of the region. Everyone should be responsible for statements to their peers in other states," Xhaferi said in an interview with Beta.

Commenting on Serbian officials' statements that Albanian politicians in the region were a threat to peace and stability, not only in the Western Balkans but in Europe, too, Xhaferi said that "from a political aspect, it is inappropriate for political representatives to describe each other in this way."

The Macedonian speaker said that Serbian and Macedonian politicians should intensify their communication, differences notwithstanding.

"My recommendation is for them to communicate as often as possible, irrespectively of how different their opinions may be," Xhaferi said.

Asked if he would join talks on resolving Macedonia's name dispute with Greece, the Macedonian speaker answered why not.

"If the authorities feel that it is necessary for the speaker to join the talks and the search for an appropriate solution, why not?" he said.

When asked what the solution was to the decade-long controversy over Macedonia's name between the two neighboring states, he said that "as a Macedonian speaker, I would rather not go into an analysis of the matter."
