Kosovo Assembly fails to adopt resolution on Haradinaj

Haradinaj's Alliance for the Future of Kosovo teamed up with the Self-Determination and the Initiative for Kosovo to produce one of the drafts, seeking Haradinaj's "immediate release" as well as "withdrawing of all illegal indictment and arrest warrants issued by Serbia, and ending the negotiations with Serbia taking place within the Brussels dialogue."

The draft of the ruling Democratic Party of Kosovo, and the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo included the first two demands presented by the opposition document, but not the third that concerns the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

Neither of the drafts eventually received enough votes.

Haradinaj, a former KLA ("Kosovo Liberation Army") commander who in the past served as Kosovo's prime minister, was arrested in France last week on a Serbian war crimes warrant.

Serbia is seeking his extradition and wants to put him on trial on suspicion that he is responsible for the crimes committed in 1998 and 1999 against Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo.
