Moscow's urgent response: All relations will be severed
"If U.S. Congress adopts a resolution on non-recognition of the presidential elections in 2024, in case Putin decides to run, Russian-U.S. relations will be interrupted" the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Jabarov stated."I am sure that this document won't be adopted. However, if something like that happens, it will lead to the severance of relations between Russia and the United States", he said, as reported by Sputnik. He also assessed that the document is highly cynical and that it has nothing to do with common sense.
Deputy Speaker of the Upper House of the Russian Parliament, Konstantin Kosachev, also spoke out, saying that the adoption of such a document would be a direct interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.
"They started interfering in our issues too soon, since the elections are only in 2024. However, this is nothing new and unexpected. Interference in internal issues in its purest form," he wrote on his Facebook.
U.S. Congressmen Steve Cohen and Joe Wilson have submitted a proposal to the U.S. House of Representatives not to recognize Russian President Vladimir Putin as the leader of the state if he decides to run for a new term in 2024, the congressman said in a statement.
Namely, Congressman Steve Cohen, Co-Chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (the Helsinki Commission), along with Ranking Member Joe Wilson of South Carolina, introduced a Congressional Resolution to end recognition of Vladimir Putin as President of Russia after May 7, 2024, if Putin remains in power.
