The Croatian website added that the coalition has won in several electoral units in the middle of Moscow - while "certainly, Putin's party United Russia that has dominated the country for 17 years, won the majority of seats on Sunday."

However, continued the article, the opposition's success in central Moscow is not in the least negligible, all the more so since United Russia was defeated in the quarter where President Vladimir Putin voted.

The Guardian is reporting that United Russia "still managed to secure about 75 percent of district council seats across the city" and that the turnout in these elections was low - about 15 percent.
