Russian forces ordered to "test combat readiness"

According to the report, Putin ordered the drills to test the ability of the units in western parts of country to act in crisis situations that represent a threat to the military security, and well as to act against threats of "terrorist, sanitary-epidemiological, and technogenic nature."

The order did not contain any references to Ukraine, while there has not yet been any comments from the Kremlin and the Defense Ministry.

Russia borders Ukraine in the west, where President Viktro Yanukovych was ousted after a three-month crisis, and temporary authorities took over.

Currently, the tension is highest in the Crimea, where pro-Russian citizens are a majority.
