BRUSSELS Reaching a comprehensive peace agreement within nine months, as envisaged by Israeli and Palestinian negotiators, is reasonable, says Catherine Ashton. "I firmly believe that the ultimate end of that conflict is realistic," a statement issued by EU's foreign policy chief further said. "Comprehensive peace agreement realistic" "I call on all those who want to see a negotiated solution to support those who are now participating in the negotiations, in order to use the opportunity for peace," Ashton was quoted as saying. Israeli and Palestinian negotiators, who met this week in Washington for first direct talks in three years, have set an ambitious goal of reaching a peace agreement within nine months, the AFP reported. "Both Israel and the Palestinians have a trusted friend and ally in the European Union," said Ashton, adding that "the continuation of negotiations opens new doors for further EU contribution to peace and security in the region, and to deepen our relations with both sides." "We will remain fully engaged with both sides and we will make every effort, together with our partners to ensure the successful outcome of the negotiations," said Ashton.
