State media said attackers riding on motorcycles attached bombs to the cars of the scientists as they were driving to work today.

One bomb killed Majid Shahriari, described as a member of the nuclear engineering department at Tehran's Shahid Beheshti University, and injured his wife.

The second blast seriously wounded Fereydoon Abbasi, a nuclear physicist, and his wife.

Iran's Fars and ISNA news agencies accused "agents" of the United States and Israel of being behind the attacks.
