NGOs protest against "persecution of gays in Chechnya"

Several NGOs on Wednesday protested in front of the Russian embassy in Belgrade over "the persecution of gay people in Chechnya."

According to the announcement of the gathering, cited by Beta, the protesters "wished to express solidarity with the people of homosexual orientation that they believe are in danger and subjected to state-organized persecution in the Russian Republic of Chechnya."

Protesters today carried banners reading "Love is a human right" written in Serbian, Russian, and English, as well as "Jail for Putin and Kadirov," "Stop anti-LGBT violence," and "LGBT rights are human rights."

The NGOs that took part include Women in Black, Da se zna LGBTI, Labris, Gayten LGBT, Autonomous Female Center, and others.
