The event will bring together Bob Beamon, Carl Lewis, Lasse Viren, Sergei Bubka, Merlene Ottey, Mike Powell, Rosa Mota, Galina Chistyakova, Kevin Young and Javier Sotomayor, who won more than 100 medals combined at major international competitions, and have also individually promoted the Belgrade Marathon in the past.

The Belgrade Marathon is a brand of the city and Serbia, and one of the largest sports events, said Mayor Sinisa Mali, adding that already twice as many people had registered compared to 2016, with over 8,000 competitors now expected in 2017.

A change to the marathon route is being considered, and it is likely to include the Ada Bridge, Mali said.
