"The FSS (Serbian Football Association) was among the first to back his candidacy, recognizing his energy and potential for performing such a responsible duty," he added.

"We had excellent cooperation while he was president of the Football Association of Slovenia, and after his election, I am certain UEFA, with him at its helm, will have a dependable partner in the FSS," said Kokeza, who sat beside Ceferin at the UEFA congress in Athens and was the first to congratulate him.

Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport has reported former Serbia football international Dejan Stankovic would join Ceferin's team at UEFA, but the former Red Star, Lazio and Inter midfielder declined to confirm this.
