3 Slovak, 2 Czech tourists die in crash in southeast

Five persons died on Tuesday in a traffic accident in Boboviste on the Nis-Belgrade highway, the Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) said.

The accident involved a Slovak number plates bus that crashed after it drove off the road.

Tanjug is reporting the bus had two drivers and a total of 29 tourists, returning from their holiday in Corfu, Greece. Five of the people aboard died - according to the Czech Foreign Ministry, three Slovak and two Czech citizens.

Nis Clinical Center Director Miodrag Lazovic said the health institution was treating 14 of those hurt, one of whom had seriously, while others, including a child, had light injuries.

Lazovic said the casualties from the bus started arriving at around 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

The police from Nis and a prosecutor of the Basic Public Prosecution in Aleksinac were investigating the scene this morning.

Traffic on the highway's left lane has not been disrupted.
