Serbia's Red Star to snub Turkey "out of respect for Russia"

Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) FC from Belgrade is considering dropping Turkey as the destination for the club's winter preparations, it has been confirmed.

The reason the respect Red Star has for Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin, who was a guest at the club's stadium in Belgrade during his visit in 2011.

Red Star General Director Zvezdan Terzic confirmed this for Tanjug on Wednesday, a day after Turkey shot down a Russian warplane near the border with Syria.

"We are considering turning to Cyprus, because we don't think it would be proper to go there (Turkey) after the latest incident that happened between Russia and Turkey," Terzic said.

Beside the respect toward Putin and Russia, Red Star's ties also include Gazprom as its general sponsor, noted Tanjug.


Drivers advised to expect snow on Serbian roads

The public enterprise Putevi Srbije (Roads of Serbia) has called on all traffic participants to exercise caution and use appropriate equipment.
