Zorana Mihajlovic said that the proposed changes to the two laws on railways aim at introducing further reforms to the Serbian Railways and rail transport.

Amendments to law for speeding up railways overhaul

“We would like Railways to be profitable, efficient in operational and financial terms, and that everything what we have been doing in the last year and a half be just the beginning of the adjustment and integration of our railways into the EU's rail system,” Mihajlovic said.

Elaborating on the proposed changes to the law on railways and the law on railway security and interoperability, Mihajlovic noted that the novelties include improvements in security and unbundling.

She noted that only 36 percent of 3,809 km of railways in Serbia are electrified.
