Serbia will compete with Wales, Ireland, Austria, Moldova and Georgia, a draw held over the weekend in St. Petersburg has decided.

The qualifications will begin on September 4, 2016. The Serbian team will play their first match at home against the Republic of Ireland on September 5.

Red Star Belgrade goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic took part in the Saturday draw ceremony. Rajkovic is the captain of the Serbian U-20 team which won the world championship in New Zealand last month.

The 21st World Cup will take place from June 14 to July 15, 2018.

Winners of the nine qualification groups will get a place in the championship, while the top eight second-ranked teams will try to win the place in the World Cup in additional qualifications.

The current holder of the World Cup champion title is Germany, Tanjug said in its report.
