Unions announce end of educators' strike

The Union of Education Workers of Serbia and the Union of Trade Unions of Education Workers of Serbia have announced that they have ended their strike.

Unions announce end of educators' strike

The decision to end the strike was preceded by the signing of a special collective agreement and an agreement on peaceful resolution of disputes, under which the amount deducted from the salaries will be repaid to employees who had gone on strike, and time lost due to classes being cut from 45 to 30 minutes will be made up.

The unions were compelled to make the move after losing mass support for the strike because "the Ministry of Education used force by introducing pay cuts for those on strike," the Union of Education Workers said in a statement on Friday.

They had requested that educators be exempt from public sector salary cuts until salary bands are introduced to level the salaries of all public sector employees.
