Students suffer poisoning from unknown source

Some of the children initially lost consciousness but are now stable and none are considered to be in a life-threatening condition.

The cause of the apparent poisoning remains unknown. The police and an inspection team from Serbia's natural gas enterprise Srbijagas are investigating the scene.

The children were in the school's gym when they were affected. The school's director, Mirjana Nikolic-Musicki, denied media reports that the source of the contamination was in the chemistry lab.

She also said that the gas installation is located outside the school building, and that "practically only hot water flows through the heating system" in the building itself.

The Ministry of the Interior (MUP) said that the police were investigating the scene and have "for the time being ruled out gas poisoning, considering that the school does not have gas installations."
