Priština University Day marked in K. Mitrovica

The Faculty of Technical Sciences in Kosovska Mitrovica hosted a formal ceremony to mark the day of Priština University.

The university was displaced from Priština after the war, and now has its temporary seat in the town in northern Kosovo.

Rector of the Priština University Srećko Milačić stated at the ceremony that the university was and remains the backbone of Serbian identity and a sign of Serbian statehood in Kosovo and Metohija.

Assistant Minister of Education Slobodan Stupar said that 43 years of the Priština University "is not a short period of time," and added that "many countries in the region have been around for a period ten times shorter."

He underscored that the Ministry of Education backed and will continue to back the University of Priština.

Rector of the Belgrade University Vladimir Bumbaširević attended the celebration of the day of the Priština University and said that the institution would have the support of the Belgrade and all other universities from central Serbia.

The ceremony was attended by Bishop Teodosije of Raška and Prizren, representatives of the Ministry of Education, heads of Kosovo administrative districts, mayors of northern Kosovo municipalities, the rector of the University in Banja Luka, RS and other guests.

Over 10,000 students are attending the ten faculties of the Priština University with the temporary seat in Kosovska Mitrovica, and the University also employs 746 professors and assistants and around 350 other staff.


Situation in media sphere in Serbia "unsustainable"

The current situation on the Serbian media scene is "unsustainable because of a decline in the quality of content, non-transparent ownership and poor finances."
