BELGRADE A virtual museum dedicated to Mihajlo Pupin has was presented at the Science and Technology Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences. Pupin was a Serbian scientist, inventor, professor, honorary doctor of 18 universities, winner of numerous science awards and honorary consul to the United States. Mihajlo Pupin Virtual Museum presented Visitors will have a chance to learn about the life of the great scientist through ten segments - a tour through his birthplace of Idvor, the United States, the country where he did most of his work as professor and scientist, awards, a time line, his famous autobiography, his bequest at the National Museum in Belgrade, his bequest at the University Library in Belgrade, and his good works. Zoran Petrovic, director of the Science and Technology Gallery, said Pupin was a great scientist and it is little known he was one of the founders of NASA, a great organizer of American science and one of the founders of the American Physical Society. "When people think of Pupin, they think first of his coil, but that is just one of his contributions to science," said Petrovic, adding it is very important to promote his heritage. He said the opening of the virtual museum and the exhibits on Pupin should keep the truth about the scientist alive to serve as inspiration to future generations, Project author Aleksandra Ninkovic-Tesic, vice president of the Mihajlo Pupin Instruction and Research Society, said that the ten segments make up the museum's permanent exhibit, while smaller exhibits will open every three months. She noted that Pupin was also a major lobbyist in the United States, who lobbied with the Carnegie Foundation to assist in the building of the University Library in Belgrade.
