BELGRADE The Dveri Movement is in favor of banning gay parades in Serbia for the next 100 years - "just like in Russia", the leader of the group has said. According to the movement, a strong gay lobby is active in the ruling Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). Socialists described as having "strong gay lobby” “This is a real measure and a wise decision and we will act accordingly by alarming the public in the campaign we are leading,” Dveri leader Vladan Glisic told a press conference on Thursday. He announced that Dveri would on October 6, when the gay Pride Parade should be held in Belgrade, hold a protest in front of the Serbian government headquarters and that they would hold a debate on October 5 as a sign of support to Russia that banned gay parades in the next 100 years. “We want to inform the public that this is not about the fight for human rights, as gay activists present it, but about a promotion of a totalitarian and destructive ideology. Combat against it should be done through institutions but if the gay parade is held out in the streets, combat against it must also be out in the streets,” Glisic noted. He stressed that he expected the authorities to ban all public gatherings on October 6, just like last year. The Dveri leader also called on President Tomislav Nikolic and Prime Minister Ivica Dacic to publicly say whether they support the Pride Parade. “If the gay parade is out on the streets than we too have to react on the streets. Their manifestations that are not in public areas are not a problem for us but we believe that it is inappropriate to take one’s sexual orientation out in the public. They have the right to organize a walk if it is not a promotion of a totalitarian ideology of homosexuality, but the parade is exactly that,” Glisic pointed out. He added that both the Pride Parade organizers and Dveri pointed to the hypocrisy of politicians, led by PM and Interior Minister Dacic. “There is a powerful gay lobby in the SPS and Dacic is at the same time saying ‘why do we need the EU if the parade is a condition’. Let him say whether he is in favor or against it, instead of ‘help us god on all four sides’,” Glisic said. He stressed that the gay lobby consisted of SPS deputy leader Zarko Obradovic, who supported the gay Pride Parade, deputy leader Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, who is a member of a Gay-Straight Alliance, and film director Srdjan Dragojevic who is a “gay propagandist”.
