Nuclear Facilities of Serbia (NOS) workers have not been exposed to high levels of radiation in the Vinca Institute, NOS Director Jagos Raicevic told B92. He explained that the level of radiation the workers had been exposed to “is similar to the one on an intercontinental flight and it is not dangerous”. Director claims level of radiation "was not high" Commenting on allegations in daily Vecernje novosti that the workers were exposed to high levels of radiation while they were handling radioactive bars, Raicevic said that the incident was documented and that “he responsibly claims that the incident was not serious enough to be necessary to write letters about it”. He also added that “a personal conflict” was a motive to make the incident public. Radiation Safety Sector Director Snezana Pavlovic sent a letter to Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, Education Minister Zarko Obradovic and Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning Minister Oliver Dulic, informing them that the workers were exposed to a drastically higher level of radiation than what is considered safe. “The employees were exposed to levels of radiation much higher than planned and approved and they were in radiation fields of extremely high intensity. There is evidence and documentation about everything,” she said in the letter. Vecernje novosti also writes that the Ionizing Radiation Protection Agency has not been informed about the incident, even though it is in charge of controlling radiation levels. According to the daily, the NOS workers “are worried about their jobs, their own safety and safety of Vinca residents”. The environment, mining and spatial planning minister stated on Friday that he had not received Pavlovic’s letter. B92 Beta
