“Passengers are waiting for two hours at Macedonian Gevgelija and Star Dojran border crossings with Greece due to long lines caused by a strike in Greece, so all drivers are advised to travel through Bulgaria,” Automobile and Motorcycle Association of Serbia (AMSS) Spokeswoman Vanja Branković said on Wednesday.

According to her, the Greek customs workers are letting vehicles through for 15 minutes every two hours and lines are extremely long since the summer holiday season has started.

She pointed out that the situation at border crossings with Greece was practically the same as on Tuesday, except for the fact that one border crossing had been passable then while it was crowded with vehicles on Wednesday.

Branković said that it was uncertain whether the situation would improve during the day, adding that the AMSS would monitor the situation and keep in touch with Macedonian authorities.

Jat Airways so far has not planned to make any changes in its flight schedule due to the strike in Greece, said Jat Airways CEO’s Chief of Staff Stanimir Jovanović.

The general strike started on June 28, a day ahead of the voting on new, even more restrictive austerity package in the Greek parliament. It has paralyzed the country and caused trouble for tourists and all those who are stuck in long lines at one of the busiest border crossings in Greece.
