Collective agreement with police unions

Serbia's Interior Minister Ivica Dacic and representatives of police unions signed a special collective agreement on Monday in Belgrade. Dacic, Independent Trade Union of Police leader Velimir Barbulov and Police Union of Serbia leader Veljko Mijailovic, who signed the agreement, agreed that the document is of historic importance for the Serbian police. Collective agreement with police unions "For the first time, there is a special collective agreement for police officers that will regulate the workers' rights," Dacic said after the signing. According to him, the specific demands of the profession called for a special contract to appropriately compensate law enforcement officers for working overtime, nights and state holidays, among other things. Dacic said that the Law on Police will be amended in the near future, and that agreement has been reached to give police officers the same treatment as professional soldiers. The collective agreement will come into effect January 1, 2012, and will be valid for three years, while a 10 percent wage increase for state holidays will be implemented after the 2011 budget balancing.
