Protests will be held in Vienna on Wednesday in support of the organizers of the cancelled Pride Parade in Belgrade. The protest in Vienna is being organized by the Austrian Association of Homosexuals. Protests in Vienna in support of Pride Parade The participators plan on protesting in front of the Serbian embassy in Vienna. Organizers of the protests stated that the Pride Parade should have been held on September 20, but that the event fell through because of “the government’s inability to cooperate.” “Instead, the extreme right achieved victory. In a campaign that last over a month, it succeeded by threatening the potential participators of the parade. Despite the international solidarity, the Belgrade government refused to protect the participators against fascist violence. This is why we are organizing a demonstration in front of the Serbian embassy in Vienna on September 30,” the organizers stated. “The open prohibition of sexual self-determination should not be condemned only in its most extreme form in Serbia, but also recently in Hungary, and in Austria as well, countries which have not shown themselves to be in accordance with the times we are living in, and will not be until the legal equality for all possible ways of living and loving is achieved,” the statement concludes. The organizers stated that other cities have already protested, claiming that protests were held for the same reason in front of the Serbian embassy in Berlin on September 24.
