"Serbia has up to 30,000 drug addicts"

There are between 25,000 and 30,000 people in Serbia who are addicted to opiates, the head of the Special Hospital for Addiction has said.

BELGRADE There are between 25,000 and 30,000 people in Serbia who are addicted to opiates, the head of the Special Hospital for Addiction has said. Jasna Daragan-Saveljic at the same time explained that this number did not include those who abused marijuana and amphetamines. However, the doctor added, it is presumed that the frequency of abuse of marijuana and other psychoactive substances is on the rise, because of which it is necessary to raise awareness about their damaging effects. Daragan-Saveljic told Pink TV that 50 percent of patients who arrive at this hospital in one year are diagnosed with this problem for the first time. She pointed out that parents should constantly talk with their children, so that they could more easily identify if their child has a problem, i.e. abuses narcotics.
