"Skopje must meet obligations before NATO invitation"

Skopje will be invited to join NATO only once it has met the obligations stemming from the Prespes agreement, Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos has said.

According to the AMNA agency, Kammenos said that "FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) has specific obligations to fulfill before the Greek parliament ratifies the agreement, without which FYROM cannot become a NATO member."

"The principle of unanimity exists in NATO. Even if a single member disagrees then a country can't become member," Kammenos said in parliament on Wednesday.

The name dispute deal ("Prespes agreement") was signed between Greek and Macedonian prime ministers on June 17, and aims to rename Macedonia to "the Republic of North Macedonia."
