Migrants found on "new route" that bypasses Serbia

The Croatian media said the migrants were found on Monday morning in Konavle, near the seaside town of Dubrovnik. Two of them carried Iranian travel documents, while the other three had no documents.

According to these reports, it was later determined they were all Iranian citizens, 25 to 31 years of age, and that they had entered Croatia illegally.

In its report, the AP said this was "a rare case of migrants trying to enter EU member Croatia from Montenegro, apparently seeking new routes after countries along the so-called Balkan corridor beefed up controls."

According to the agency, around 7,000 migrants have been "trapped in Serbia" since neighboring EU members Croatia and Hungary closed borders for migrant entry.
