RTRS said the ceremony will be held two weeks before the upcoming referendum on RS Day. RS Day is marked on January 9.

Nedjo Trninic, a minister in the RS government, said the highway will receive this name because it is the date when the Assembly of the Serb People in Bosnia-Herzegovina decided to establish the RS.

The first stretch of the highway from Doboj to Prnjavor will be opened on September 11, RTRS is reporting on Wednesday, adding that beside the entity's top officials, the ceremony will also be attended by Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.

Trninic added that he hoped a large number of citizens would also turn out, along with the heads of the five municipalities that the highway passes through.

"This highway represents yet more proof that the RS is investing in infrastructure," said the minister, who is in charge of transport in the RS government.
