Italian agency ANSA is reporting that the person detained was "introduced to radical Islam by an unnamed Bosnian imam."

The identity of the Macedonian citizen has not been revealed. He was arrested after an investigation into several persons originally from the Balkans who now live in Italy's northeast.

They are suspected of establishing a network to recruit and indoctrinate foreign fighters for Middle Eastern wars.

The investigation revealed that several persons "of Macedonian and Bosnian origin" had left to Syria from Italy for this purpose. Two of those were killed in 2013 and 2014, while a third is still in that war zone.
