The voting took place during the official visit to Athens of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, who met with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

Tsipras said on Monday the vote in parliament would serve only to formally confirm his country's previous position.

Palestine has been recognized by 135 members of the United Nations.
