Hungary criticizes countries "helping migrants" reach it

It is completely unacceptable that authorities in the countries along the so-called Balkan route are helping migrants reach the Schengen border.

This is what Hungarian government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs said on Friday.

He told Hungary's state television MI that Hungary was "the only country on that route doing its job well when it comes to the influx of migrants."

He described the refugees as becoming "increasingly aggressive, demanding from the authorities to be transported further to the desired destination."

Hungary must protect itself both as a separate state and as an EU member, "and must to that end create a controlled environment," Kovacs said.

He stressed that migrants are arriving to the Hungarian border "from countries like Greece and Macedonia" - where their lives are not in danger.

"These people have an alternative to crossing the border illegally, that is, they are free to turn to Hungarian authorities and authorities of other EU member-states with their asylum applications," the spokesman said.
