The Forum further stated that the incident started when the unnamed gay activist's "sexual orientation and physical characteristics were being called out," to which he responded "in a neutral manner, seeking to avoid further confrontation.

However, after he was ordered to leave the store he refused, and was eventually physically assaulted.

"As he was struck in the head, the LBGT community member's hat and glasses fell to the floor. As he was leaving the store, the attacker kicked him in the back. The victim attempted on five occasions to call the police, but nobody answered the call," the Forum said.

The NGO further noted that, "as before, violence and pressure against LGBT persons is intensively stronger ahead of the pride parade." They added they saw "no progress in social acceptance of gay persons"

The Forum said they filed a criminal complaint to the police and the state prosecution over the Tivat incident.

A gay parade is to be held on November 2 in Montenegro's capital Podgorica.

This will be the 2nd Pride Parade there, after last year's gathering that saw strong security measures and fierce clashes between opponents of the event and the police.
