BELGRADE Serbia is negotiating the EU accession very uncritically when the EU is taking Kosovo away from Serbia, Republic of Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik says. “We can see that Serbia is now in the process of constituting the new government but Serbia has been searching for itself for years, in a political sense,” he told daily Blic. RS president criticizes Serbia’s EU, Kosovo policy “Serbia has been prone to the outside influence when it comes to the EU accession. Very uncritically in a situation when the same EU is taking Kosovo away from Serbia and you are starting the negotiation process with them,” Dodik explained. He said he had talked to PM-Designate Ivica Dacic about the work of the council on the implementation of the agreement on special relations. “Serbia needs to take better care of Serbs outside Serbia. The RS has strong economical and now political ties with Russia and Serbia with the EU,” Dodik said. He stressed that he was not the one to decide but that he believed that Serbia should have a clear position on it. “A solution is to say ‘We are sorry, you recognized Kosovo so why are we partners then? And that is the solution. If you want to continue to implement the policy that Serbia had so far, where everything happened in order to strengthen Kosovo’s independence, then somebody is closing their eyes and they do not want to see what will happen at the end of the road,” the RS president warned. “There is a permanent institutionalized potential of Serbia and the RS, regardless of who heads the institutions. It would be a tragedy if Serbia and RS’ relations were based on personal ties,” Dodik added. “The relations need to be stronger. You will not be able to explain to anyone in Serbia why you do not have good relations with the RS just like we will not be able to explain that we have no cooperation with Serbia,” he concluded.
