The Montenegrin Foreign Ministry announced on Monday it would back Serbia's Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic in his run for president of the UN General Assembly. Ministry's director of multilateral and regional cooperation Zoran Jankovic said Podgorica supported its neighbors, especially the ones from the former Yugoslavia, whenever they ran for something within international organizations. Montenegro supports Jeremic's bid "There is no reason for it be different in this case. Especially since a high-ranking representative of Serbia is in question," he stated. Jeremic confirmed earlier he had entered the race to become the 67th president of the UN General Assembly, but added that the path to the office was long and complex. If elected, Jeremic would sit at the head of the assembly for one year. His first official appearance would be in September 2012, when the assembly is set to begin its one-year session.
